Position

The Shalom Hartman Institute of North America (SHI NA) is looking to hire a Grants Manager to join its Foundation Relations Team. The position is full-time, based in New York. This position is in-person 4 days a week and remote on Fridays and reports to the Director of Foundation Relations as part of the Global Development Team.

The Grants Manager plays a central role in advancing Shalom Hartman Institute’s mission by managing the full lifecycle of a portfolio of grants for funders based in North America. This includes prospect research, proposal writing, grant stewardship, reporting, compliance, and coordination with program, finance, and development teams. The role requires exceptional writing skills, strong project management, and a proven ability to manage competing deadlines.

The ideal candidate is a confident writer, strategic thinker, and creative problem solver with excellent interpersonal and communication skills who is passionate about securing philanthropic resources to advance the Institute’s mission to inspire a better Judaism and a better Israel for the 21st century.

Key Responsibilities
Writing

  • Write compelling grant reports and proposals to major foundations and funders
  • Produce donor-facing materials such as program updates for foundation and private donors, one-pagers, digital reports, PowerPoints and impact reports
  • Ensure all submissions align with SHI’s strategic goals, program language, and organizational voice
  • Work with finance and program teams to align budgets with grant narratives

Grants Management

  • Track and manage grant deadlines, deliverables, reporting cycles, and stewardship touchpoints using Salesforce and internal systems
  • Prepare grant materials for submission, including gathering program data, composing narratives, presenting metrics and budgets, and more
  • Ensure timely submission of narrative and financial reports in accordance with funder requirements
  • Research potential foundation and individual prospects as needed

Systems Management & Documentation

  • Maintain Customer Relations System (Salesforce) activity for grant submissions
  • Maintain internal tracking of grant cycles, payment schedules, and reporting deadlines
  • Maintain accurate grant documentation including agreements, reports, and proposals

Qualifications

  • 5+ years proven experience in grant writing, institutional fundraising, or related development roles (nonprofit or philanthropic sector)
  • Excellent writing and editing skills; ability to communicate complex ideas clearly
  • Excellent project management and time management skills, ability to multi-task and work efficiently to meet regular deadlines, excellent attention to detail
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to think strategically and creatively to elevate Institute’s fundraising strategies and activities
  • Familiarity with Jewish communal landscape in North America
  • Ability and/or desire to utilize AI as a critical resource
  • Experience working with CRM systems (Salesforce preferred)
  • Experience and comfort working in a cross-cultural environment
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office
  • BA or equivalent required

Salary range and benefits: $90,000 - $125,000 annual salary, commensurate with experience. Very competitive benefits package. SHI NA is an equal opportunity employer.
