Hillel Day School of Metropolitan Detroit (www.hillelday.org) delivers an outstanding general and Jewish education to Jewish children from early childhood through eighth grade. We are seeking a full-time Kitchen Aide employee, Monday through Friday. 6:00am to 2:30 pm. Potential for overtime with in house catering services. School year schedule August 18, 2025 through June 11, 2026. Summer coverage for other staff taking time off may be available.

Summary:

The Kitchen Aide performs a variety of routine manual tasks associated with the cleaning of the kitchen area and food preparation equipment to ensure the kitchen is clean and operational at all times.

· Helps kitchen team in kitchen staff absences

· Handwashing food preparation and serving equipment, utensils, pots, pans, etc.

· Delivers and stores clean dishes and utensils to proper storage area

· Cleans kitchen area, tables, cabinets, equipment and disposals of trash and garbage

· Assists in loading food in disposable containers for carts or trucks for delivery

· Assist with large catering events as required

· Performs related kitchen duties as required and assigned

· Help prep simple components of each dish on the menu by chopping, slicing, cutting cooking, baking, salad bar prep and service

· Report to the Food Service Manager

· Help with stocking inventory and supplies

· Able to follow health guidelines by state and local officials

· Ability to work some weekends, Saturday nights after Shabbat, Sunday (catering) very rare

· Other duties assigned as required under the Jewish day school guidelines

· Attend and/or schedule meetings and trainings as required

· Ensures a first-in, first-out food rotation system and verifies all food products are properly dated and organized for quality assurance

Requirements

Requirements:

· High School Graduate,

· Minimum of 1 years’ experience in a similar role

· Knowledge of food and kitchen best practices and cooking methods

· Excellent communication and organizational skills

· Multi-tasking in a fast paced environment

· Must be able to work cooperatively and efficiently in a team

· Ability to work under pressure

· Exceptional Customer-Service Skills
