As Director of Communications, you will elevate Hillel's visibility, drive engagement, and showcase inspiring stories. You will also bring expertise in social media and strategic communication planning to enhance Hillel’s reach and effectiveness.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and Execute Communication Strategy
- Develop and implement a comprehensive communication plan, including weekly e-newsletters, blogs, print publications, social media, and school announcements.
- Write, edit, and manage content for the weekly e-newsletter, website, blog, and social media platforms, applying SEO and digital marketing principles to maximize reach.
- Shape messaging to suit different platforms, ensuring alignment with Hillel’s mission and goals.
- Partner with school leadership to craft communications for key initiatives, announcements, and events.
- Social Media and Digital Marketing
- Manage and expand Hillel’s social media presence across Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, and other platforms to engage current and prospective families.
- Analyze website, blog, and digital platform analytics to refine and enhance engagement strategies.
- Develop innovative campaigns that highlight Hillel’s programs, events, and successes.
- Strategic Communication Planning
- Collaborate with admissions and development to implement an annual communication plan that supports recruitment and fundraising initiatives.
- Monitor the school’s online reputation and update content on external directories and review platforms.
- Identify and capitalize on PR opportunities to promote Hillel’s mission and achievements in local and national media outlets.
- Engagement and Content Creation
- Manage photography and videography for school events to capture and share the vibrancy of the school community.
- Build and maintain relationships with alumni, alumni parents, and grandparents through newsletters and other initiatives.
- Serve as a visible and enthusiastic representative of Hillel at events, supporting content creation and Advancement team efforts.
- Emergency Communications
- Manage the distribution of emergency alerts, including snow days, lockdowns, and other urgent updates.
- Collaborative Teamwork
- Partner with departments to align messaging and ensure consistent communication across all channels.
- Support the Advancement Office with event production and special projects.
What We’re Looking For:
- Mission-Driven Professional: A belief in and commitment to Hillel’s mission and core values.
- Communication Prodigy: Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling skills, with a knack for engaging diverse audiences.
- Social Media Guru: Deep understanding of social media platforms and digital marketing strategies; experience in Blackbaud and Blackboard is a plus.
- Strategic Thinker: A proven ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize competing deadlines, and analyze performance data to inform decision-making.
- Collaborative Leader: Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills, able to work across departments and with external stakeholders.
- Adaptable and Creative: A self-starter who thrives in dynamic environments and brings a fresh, innovative approach to communication challenges.
Qualifications:
- 3-5 years of experience in communications, social media management, marketing, or a related field.
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, public relations, journalism, or a related discipline preferred.
- Proficiency in digital marketing tools, social media platforms, and content management systems.
- Experience in independent schools is a plus.
- Knowledge of Jewish traditions, holidays, and culture is strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
