We are seeking a dynamic and passionate Maker Space teacher to join our team.

Position Overview

The Maker Space Teacher will teach part-time in the Maker Space, integrating engineering, design thinking, and STEAM concepts. The rest of their time will be spent collaborating with classroom teachers to design and implement STEAM, Project-Based-Learning, and Design Thinking opportunities. This position will start on Monday, August 19, 2024.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Teach Maker Space classes that integrate engineering Design Thinking, and generalized STEAM concepts.
  • Collaborate with colleagues and administrators to facilitate Maker Space projects and opportunities for all students.
  • Provide support when classes are in the Maker Space, ensuring a productive and safe environment.
  • Teach tool safety and proper usage.
  • Utilize 3D printers, laser cutters, power tools, hand tools, and other technologies.
  • Manage the Maker Space and maintain its inventory of supplies.
  • Build warm, authentic, positive relationships with students and parents.
  • Serve as a role model for students.
Requirements

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in education or a related field.
  • Alignment with Hillel Day School’s Mission and 7 core Jewish values.
  • Enthusiasm for and experience with contemporary pedagogy, STEAM principles, and Design Thinking.
  • Willingness to continually learn, improve, and experiment both independently and as part of a collaborative team.
  • Strong organizational and detail-oriented skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Creative, flexible, professional, responsible, and possessing a strong work ethic.
