GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION

The Employment Resource Specialist provides front-line support to career center customers seeking employment, training, and workforce services. This role assists individuals with job search activities, Unemployment Insurance (UI) work registration/RESEA and compliance requirements, career exploration, and access to workforce system programs and community resources. The Specialist delivers high-quality, customer-centered service in the Resource Room and virtual settings, working collaboratively with internal staff and partners to ensure customers are connected to career pathway opportunities and appropriate referrals.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Bachelor’s degree in human services, social work, education, human resources, business, or related field preferred.

Other: Two to three years of experience linking economically disadvantaged adults with community resources required. Experience supporting individuals with Unemployment Insurance processes or state workforce systems preferred. Interpersonal skills sufficient to communicate with participants, public, and staff. Ability to respond effectively to multiple requests and changing customer flow. Composition skills sufficient to prepare required reports, letters, and data input tasks.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Greet customers and provide customer service in a manner that results in expressed satisfaction with services provided.
  • Provide orientation to services and resources available in the center.
  • Provide support to customers in the resource center to register on Pure Michigan Talent Connect, develop resumes, complete applications, and register on online job databases.
  • Assist customers with Unemployment Insurance (UI) work registration and compliance requirements, including guidance on state workforce system registration, job search documentation, and basic system navigation; refer claim-specific issues to appropriate UI representatives as needed.
  • Complete all data entry, reporting, and documentation requirements in a timely and accurate manner. Data tracking systems may include OSMIS, Salesforce, AGS Prime, and Pure Michigan Talent Connect.
  • Conduct initial intake and basic assessments to identify employment needs, barriers, and goals.
  • Advocate for and link customers to community resources and assess available support services. Assist in providing warm handoffs to internal staff or community partners.
  • Keep information on partner organizations updated by making routine contact to verify services and eligibility requirements.
  • Develop, enhance, and deliver workshops for groups and individuals.
  • Administer and interpret vocational assessment tools such as CASAS, interest surveys, and standardized/validated aptitude tests.
  • Other duties as assigned.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Environmental Conditions:

  • Moderate noise (i.e., business office with computers, phone, and printers, light traffic).
  • Ability to work in a confined area.
  • Ability to sit at a computer terminal for an extended period.

Physical Requirements:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, sit, talk, hear, and use hands and fingers to operate a computer and telephone keyboard, reach, stoop, and kneel to install computer equipment.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision requirements due to computer work.
  • Light to moderate lifting is required.
